clawcall — Claude Code MCP server: real US phone calls
Hands your agent tools for real outbound calls in the US: it dials, walks phone menus, sits through hold time and brings back a transcript.
claude mcp add --transport http clawcall https://api.clawcall.dev/mcpWhat clawcall does
clawcall is a stdio MCP server that wraps the ClawCall REST API. It imports nothing from the ClawCall backend — it just exposes that contract as tools any MCP host can call. Calls go outbound only, US numbers only, +1 format.
You can skip the API key entirely. On the first place_call the server issues a proto-key itself and writes it to ~/.config/clawcall/key.json. The ClawCall skill touches the same file, so skill and server share one identity, one trial quota and one call history. Setting CLAWCALL_API_KEY in the environment shadows that file — useful for operators and CI.
A call takes minutes, so the loop matters: place_call returns a call_id right away, then you poll get_call every 3 seconds until lifecycle reads finalized, and pull the transcript with get_call_transcript. The outcome field describes the phone network, not your task — a picked-up call can still fail what you asked for. Do not retry 402 errors. trial_exhausted, plan_required and reserved_number_required all need a person, and the action.url has to be forwarded as-is because it is personalized and carries your proto-key.
What it helps with
- call a business and find out its opening hours
- gather quotes from several suppliers in parallel
- get past an IVR menu and reach a human
- pull a transcript of the conversation into a report
- compare policies across different providers
Example prompts for the agent
- Call the repair shop and ask whether they open on Saturday
- Ring three stores and compare who has this part in stock
- Place the call and show me the transcript when it finishes

Questions about clawcall
How do I install clawcall in Claude Code?
Add the hosted connector with claude mcp add --transport http clawcall https://api.clawcall.dev/mcp. A separate command covers the local stdio package via npx -y @clawcall/mcp.
What does clawcall do?
It places outbound US phone calls for your agent, handles menus and hold time, then returns a transcript. The agent works through place_call, get_call and get_call_transcript.
Do I need an API key to start?
No. The server issues a proto-key on your first call and stores it in ~/.config/clawcall/key.json. CLAWCALL_API_KEY is only an override.
