Kivgraph — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
A local MCP server that builds a semantic graph across several repositories and tells an agent who calls a symbol and what a change breaks.
Open on GitHubWhat Kivgraph does
Kivgraph indexes your registered repositories once, then serves the agent a frozen graph of symbols. Edges come from go/types, the TypeScript checker and rust-analyzer instead of name matching, so an empty reference list really means no caller exists. grep cannot give you that guarantee.
Thirteen read-only tools run over STDIO, among them find_references, find_implementations, get_blast_radius, find_cross_repo_consumers and find_by_intent. Two more, index_project and start_index_project, write state and need the client's consent first. Go, TypeScript, Rust, Python and Dart are covered. Python references from the AST fallback are tagged CANDIDATE, never EXACT.
Don't expect token savings everywhere. For a rare name in a small repo grep is cheaper, and the author's own research found no steady net saving across long agent sessions. You need Node.js 22 or newer. Calls between services over HTTP, gRPC or Kafka are outside what it detects.
What it helps with
- list every caller of a function
- see what a method signature change would touch
- find consumers of a library in neighbouring repositories
- locate implementations of an interface or method
- track down code when you forgot the symbol name
Example prompts for the agent
- Use Kivgraph to show who calls this function across my repositories
- Ask Kivgraph what breaks if I change this method's signature
- With Kivgraph, find implementations of the
Storageinterface and its consumers in other repos

Questions about Kivgraph
How do I install Kivgraph in Claude Code?
The installer script detects your platform, downloads the latest MCP release, verifies the archive and bundle checksums, and needs neither Go nor pnpm. Then register it with Claude Code as a STDIO MCP server.
What does Kivgraph do?
It builds a local semantic graph over registered repositories and answers questions about references, implementations, dependencies and change impact. It also shows consumers living in other repositories.
Which languages and platforms does Kivgraph support?
Go, TypeScript, Rust, Python and Dart. Builds exist for linux/amd64, darwin/arm64 and windows/amd64. Indexing Python requires Python 3.10 or later.
