KanbanThing — Claude Code MCP server: shared kanban, no account

Hooks your agent up to a KanbanThing board you share by link and password, so cards, columns and due dates move from the chat.

What KanbanThing does

This server plugs an agent into a KanbanThing board that someone already has open in a browser. Cards can be created with a description, colour and due date, then sorted into columns or shifted between them.

There is no signup and no API key. A board address plus the password chosen when the board was made is all the server needs. Every board is password-protected, and a read-only link covers people who should look but not edit.

Created boards are wiped within 60 days. Fine for a retrospective or a short sprint; wrong for a project log you plan to keep. Copy anything you want to survive elsewhere. The endpoint is HTTP at https://www.kanbanthing.com/mcp.

What it helps with

  • file cards on a shared board without leaving the chat
  • move work between columns from the terminal
  • set due dates and review them in the calendar view
  • spin up a retrospective board and hand the team a link
  • give someone a read-only look at the board

Example prompts for the agent

  • Add a card called "Fix login" to In Progress with a due date on Friday
  • List the overdue cards on the board and move them to the backlog
  • Create three cards from the retro notes and put them in the right columns

Neither. You need the board link and the password set when the board was created.
