Jacobian — Claude Code MCP server: math for agents
Hands your agent a set of typed math operations: find one, run it, pass the result on. Useful when you need an exact answer instead of a guess.
claude mcp add jacobian -- npx -y jacobianWhat Jacobian does
Jacobian is an MCP server that exposes a library of mathematical operations. The math.find tool matches an operation to what you need or shows its contract, and math.run executes it and returns a typed result. The same library also ships as a CLI and a Python API.
Inside you get exact linear algebra, polynomial maps, graphs and isomorphism, bounded SAT and SMT, finite algebra, probability, geometry and topology. SAT and SMT go through the Z3 binding. Every operation solves one narrow task, so you can feed its output into the next call and build the chain yourself.
Quick setup runs through npx jacobian@latest setup, which needs Node.js 20.17+, 22.13+ or 23.5+ and uvx on your PATH. The tested build targets CPython 3.12 or 3.13 on glibc Linux x86-64; on Alpine/musl the full mandatory PyPI stack will not install. Singular and QEPCAD are optional system runtimes for a subset of operations, and the Python install does not provision them.
What it helps with
- compute the determinant of an exact rational matrix
- get the gcd and Bézout coefficients of two integers
- check whether two graphs are isomorphic
- solve a bounded SAT or SMT problem
- break a polynomial map into composable steps
Example prompts for the agent
- Use
math.findto locate an operation for a matrix determinant and show its contract - Run
math.runoninteger.compute.extended_gcdwith{"left":"84","right":"30"} - Find an operation for graph isomorphism and execute it

Questions about Jacobian
How do I install Jacobian in Claude Code?
With one command: claude mcp add jacobian -- npx -y jacobian. For Codex it is the same shape: codex mcp add jacobian -- npx -y jacobian.
What does Jacobian do?
It gives an agent typed math operations: math.find locates one or shows its contract, and math.run executes it and returns the result.
What do I need to run Jacobian?
For quick setup, Node.js 20.17+, 22.13+ or 23.5+ and uvx on your PATH. The tested build runs on CPython 3.12 or 3.13 under glibc Linux x86-64.
