Unity MCP — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Hosts an MCP endpoint directly inside Unity Editor to inspect logs and modify project scenes directly from your AI agent.
Open on GitHubWhat Unity MCP does
Rather than running an external bridge process, the server executes directly within Unity Editor at http://127.0.0.1:<port>/mcp. Companion terminal tasks run via isuzu-unity-cli, which ships as a native binary without requiring Node or .NET runtimes. Authoring tool operations group their changes so that each agent call maps to a single Undo step in the editor history.
The integration requires Unity Editor 2022.3 or newer. You also need Git 2.14.0 or later in your PATH when importing via the Unity Package Manager git URL, whereas VPM installations avoid Git entirely. Because the endpoint binds strictly to 127.0.0.1 and checks bearer tokens on incoming requests, remote network access to your editor session is blocked by design.
What it helps with
- inspect editor console logs and compilation status
- modify game objects, scenes, and prefabs with automatic Undo
- execute EditMode unit tests and parse failure reports
- simulate keyboard and mouse input inside Unity Editor
Example prompts for the agent
- Check Unity compilation errors and fix the syntax issue in the player controller script.
- Create a prefab with a BoxCollider component in the active scene.
- Run the test suite via Unity MCP and summarize failing assertions.

Questions about Unity MCP
How to install Unity MCP in Claude Code?
Add package git URL https://github.com/isuzu-shiranui/UnityMCP.git?path=jp.shiranui-isuzu.unity-mcp in Unity Package Manager. Install the CLI via curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/isuzu-shiranui/UnityMCP/main/install.sh | sh (or irm https://raw.githubusercontent.com/isuzu-shiranui/UnityMCP/main/install.ps1 | iex on Windows), then run isuzu-unity-cli setup --mcp --agent claude-code.
What does Unity MCP do?
It exposes Unity Editor internals to AI tools over the Model Context Protocol. Models can inspect scenes, edit components, control playback, and execute C# editor routines.
Does Unity MCP need a separate background server?
No, Unity Editor hosts the streamable HTTP endpoint within its own process. The CLI detects active projects via descriptor files without manual port flags.
