Gearcoleco MCP Server — Claude Code MCP server: setup
This MCP server connects Gearcoleco to AI coding agents for emulator debugging, execution control, and memory inspection.
Open on GitHubWhat Gearcoleco MCP Server does
Gearcoleco MCP Server is built into the Gearcoleco ColecoVision and Coleco ADAM emulator. It exposes tools for Claude Code and Codex to control execution, inspect memory, check hardware state, and rewind. The project itself is written in C++ and includes a debugger for development work.
Gearcoleco provides a disassembler, CPU and memory-access breakpoints, address navigation, a memory editor, trace logging, and VRAM inspection. An MCPB package for all platforms is documented in MCP_README.md. ADAM mode requires BIOS and ADAM Firmware, which are not bundled.
The emulator runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, and BSD. The MCP server is also listed for Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf (Devin Desktop), Cline, and Zed. Linux may require libsdl3; Windows builds may require the Visual C++ Redistributable and OpenGL Compatibility Pack.
What it helps with
- control emulator execution from an AI agent
- inspect memory and hardware state
- set breakpoints while debugging games
- examine VRAM, registers, tiles, and sprites
- rewind execution during diagnosis
Example prompts for the agent
- Start Gearcoleco, inspect the hardware state, and explain the problem you find.
- Set a memory-access breakpoint and trace execution until the value changes.
- Show the current VRAM contents, registers, and sprites.
