mcp-server · ffmpeg-micro — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
Connect an agent to FFmpeg Micro to start video transcodes, track jobs, and retrieve output links. The server also exposes ready-made video workflows.
claude mcp add --transport http mcp-server https://mcp.ffmpeg-micro.comWhat mcp-server does
An agent can submit one or more videos for transcoding, choose a quality or resolution preset, or pass FFmpeg options. It can also inspect a job, list jobs, and cancel one that is pending or processing. Completed files get signed download links with a 10-minute lifetime.
Local files use a two-part upload flow: the server provides a temporary HTTPS address, the client sends the file there, then confirms the upload. Ready-made workflows cover tasks such as captions, resizing, and watermarks. The caption-video workflow pauses so a transcript can be reviewed before processing resumes.
Claude Code can connect to the HTTP server without running a local process; the first connection opens FFmpeg Micro sign-in in a browser. Local npx setup needs Node.js 22.14 or later and an API key. Output links expire, so fetch a fresh link when an older one no longer works.
What it helps with
- submit video files for transcoding with a chosen resolution
- inspect or cancel an FFmpeg Micro job
- upload a local video for processing
- run a prepared video workflow and retrieve its output link
Example prompts for the agent
- Convert this video to MP4 at 720p and return a link when the file is ready.
- Show my failed FFmpeg Micro jobs.
- Create captions for this video, let me review the transcript, then resume processing after I approve it.
