elefante — MCP server for Claude Code: Git-backed memory
An agent memory system where each memory is a file in a Git repository. Works across all platforms, stays in your control, and leaves an auditable trail.
claude mcp add elefante -- npx -y elefante-mcpWhat elefante does
elefante stores agent memory in a regular Git repository instead of a vendor's closed vault. Each memory is a Markdown file with YAML frontmatter—readable, editable, human-friendly. Changes become commits you can audit. The system detects your working directory's Git remote and automatically scopes memories: global preferences apply everywhere, project details stay local. When the MCP server starts, it reads and injects your top memories into the agent's system prompt, so the agent knows your context without searching. Four memory types (user, feedback, project, reference) enforce clear classification. You'll need Node.js and a Git repository where memories live.
One MCP server connects to all platforms: Claude Code, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Codex, Windsurf, Cline, Zed. The agent gets seven tools to read, write, search, update, and sync memory.
What it helps with
- Store agent memory in editable files you own
- Review memory changes through git log history
- Share the same memory across Claude, Cursor, Copilot, and other platforms
- Auto-inject memories into the agent's system prompt
- Separate global preferences from project-specific context
Example prompts for the agent
- Remember this project uses PostgreSQL 16 with TypeScript strict mode enabled everywhere
- Search my memories for database testing mistakes
- Update the staging URL memory to the new address
