Dynatrace — MCP server for Claude Code: query your observability data
A remote MCP server that wires your coding agent into a Dynatrace environment: live queries, incident analysis, metrics and logs.
Open on GitHubWhat Dynatrace does
Dynatrace hosts this server, so there is no local process to run. It hands the agent access to the Dynatrace platform API, and the accompanying skills cover the ground: DQL syntax, service RED metrics, distributed traces, hosts and containers, Kubernetes, logs, AWS/Azure/GCP resources, and root-cause work on problems. Separate skills deal with alerting, forecasting, network devices and telemetry from GenAI apps.
Two environment variables do the setup: DT_ENVIRONMENT holding an address like https://<env>.apps.dynatrace.com, and DT_PLATFORM_TOKEN with a platform token. Set both before your agent starts, or the connection has nowhere to go. Required token scopes are listed in the MCP server docs; a token with narrower rights will be rejected on some calls.
In Claude the plugin bundles the server configuration along with the skills. claude mcp login plugin:dynatrace:dynatrace checks that the link works. Skills on their own teach the agent, they don't fetch anything: pair them with the server or with the dtctl CLI when you want real data back.
What it helps with
- write a working DQL query without syntax mistakes
- trace an incident to its root cause from problem data
- check RED metrics for a .NET, Java, Node.js or Go service
- inspect a distributed trace and the dependencies between services
- measure LLM token spend in a GenAI app
Example prompts for the agent
- Show CPU metrics across hosts for the past hour from Dynatrace
- List open problems on the checkout service and explain the cause
- Write a DQL query over payment service logs for today

Questions about Dynatrace
How do I install Dynatrace in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --transport http dynatrace https://{environment_id}.apps.dynatrace.com/platform-reserved/mcp-gateway/v0.1/servers/dynatrace-mcp/mcp after exporting DT_ENVIRONMENT and DT_PLATFORM_TOKEN.
What does the Dynatrace server do?
It gives the agent the Dynatrace platform API: DQL queries, metrics, traces, logs, problem analysis and cloud resources.
What do I need before it works?
An environment address in DT_ENVIRONMENT and a platform token in DT_PLATFORM_TOKEN with enough scopes. The server itself is remote.
