DocsMint — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
DocsMint gives agents a way to search, read, create, and organize project documents. Use it to keep knowledge available beyond the current conversation.
claude mcp add --env HIAI_DOCS_URL=<HIAI_DOCS_URL> --env HIAI_DOCS_API_KEY=<HIAI_DOCS_API_KEY> --transport stdio mcp-server -- npx -y @hiai-gg/docsmintWhat DocsMint does
DocsMint connects an agent to a document store over MCP. Its search combines hybrid retrieval, reranking, and GraphRAG, while access can be scoped to a workspace, category, and permitted actions. This helps when an agent needs to retrieve project knowledge across sessions.
For Claude Code, connect the hosted service with claude mcp add --transport http mcp-server https://docsmint.com/mcp. A local stdio bridge is also available in @hiai-gg/docsmint; it talks to an existing DocsMint API rather than deploying one. That setup needs the API URL and HIAI_DOCS_API_KEY. Without a running API, the bridge cannot perform document operations.
What it helps with
- find documents by text or tags
- read saved project notes
- create or update a document
- organize documents into folders and categories
Example prompts for the agent
- Find project documents about the database migration.
- Read the note containing our architecture decisions.
- Save this plan to the project documents.

Questions about DocsMint
How do I install DocsMint in Claude Code?
For the hosted service, run claude mcp add --transport http mcp-server https://docsmint.com/mcp. The local bridge uses a different command and requires an API URL and key.
What does DocsMint do?
It connects an agent to project documents so the agent can search, read, create, and organize them. Search combines hybrid retrieval, reranking, and GraphRAG.
Does the local bridge install the DocsMint API?
No. The @hiai-gg/docsmint package runs an MCP bridge that connects to an API already running in your environment.
