displaybuddy-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: control Mac monitors
An MCP server that lets an AI agent change brightness, contrast, input and presets on Mac monitors through DisplayBuddy.
claude mcp add displaybuddy-mcp -- npx -y @biocross/displaybuddy-mcpWhat displaybuddy-mcp does
The server wraps the displaybuddy CLI, which talks to the running DisplayBuddy app over a URL scheme. The chain is short: agent → MCP server → displaybuddy CLI → app → your monitors. Everything stays on the machine.
Nine tools ship with it. displaybuddy_status gives a quick look at every display, displaybuddy_list adds UUID, type and capabilities, while displaybuddy_get and displaybuddy_set read and change brightness, contrast, volume, input and rotation. Presets live in displaybuddy_preset_list and displaybuddy_preset_activate, schedules in displaybuddy_schedule_list and displaybuddy_schedule_toggle, and multi-display sync in displaybuddy_sync.
You need macOS with DisplayBuddy installed and running, the CLI tool from its settings (Settings > General > Install CLI Tool), and Node.js 18+. Skip the CLI step and the server has nothing to call — check that first.
What it helps with
- lower the brightness on every monitor at once
- move an external display to a different input
- apply a saved preset for a specific task
- match several screens to the main display
- turn an automation schedule on or off
Example prompts for the agent
- Which displays are connected right now?
- Drop the brightness on all monitors to 30%
- Activate my Night Mode preset
