mcp · clawfetch — Claude Code MCP server: web tools and setup

This server gives agents tools to fetch and render web pages, extract structured data, and research topics. Paid calls require a wallet funded with USDC on Base.

What mcp does

Agents can turn a URL into Markdown, render JavaScript-heavy sites, extract data from supported services, or research a subject across sources with citations. Other tools check domain availability, parse office files, and build a company profile from its domain.

Run the server locally over stdio or expose it over HTTP. Paid calls need CLAWFETCH_PRIVATE_KEY to sign micropayments, and its wallet address must hold USDC on Base mainnet. The server can start without the key and list its tools, but calls return setup instructions instead of results.

The hosted public endpoint has been retired and responds with HTTP 410, so clients need a local instance. HTTP mode binds to loopback by default; remote access requires CLAWFETCH_HOST=0.0.0.0 and public hostnames in CLAWFETCH_ALLOWED_HOSTS.

What it helps with

  • turn a web page into Markdown
  • render a JavaScript-heavy site before extracting its content
  • research a topic across sources and return citations
  • check whether domain names are available
  • build a company profile from its domain

Example prompts for the agent

  • Fetch this URL and give me the page content as Markdown.
  • Research this topic across multiple sources and include citations.
  • Check whether these domains are available and suggest available alternatives.

Questions about mcp

How do I install mcp in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add mcp -e CLAWFETCH_PRIVATE_KEY=<CLAWFETCH_PRIVATE_KEY> -- npx -y @clawfetch/mcp. Replace the placeholder with the wallet key used to sign payments.

What does the mcp MCP server do?

It connects an agent to ClawFetch tools for fetching and rendering pages, extracting data, researching topics, and checking domains. It can also parse office documents and build company profiles from domains.

Does mcp need an API key or wallet?

Paid tool calls require CLAWFETCH_PRIVATE_KEY and USDC on the matching wallet address on Base mainnet. Without the key, the server starts, but tool calls return setup instructions.
