Citation Intelligence — Claude Code MCP server: install and use
Tracks which links AI search engines cite in their answers. It checks visibility across Perplexity, Claude, ChatGPT, and Gemini directly from your editor.
claude mcp add citation-intelligence -- npx -y @automatelab/citation-intelligenceWhat Citation Intelligence does
The server groups its tools into namespaces like citations_*, domain_*, report_*, and audit_*. Rather than relying on a single engine, tools like citations_provenance query multiple models at once to reveal cross-engine consensus. That prevents skewed metrics from a single provider.
Execution happens locally on your machine via npx without external accounts. Because the package has no hosted backend, you must provide your own API keys for the AI search engines you want to query. It also includes diagnostic tools to confirm whether bots like GPTBot and ClaudeBot can crawl your pages.
What it helps with
- discover which URLs AI search engines cite for a target query
- check if your domain appears in Perplexity or ChatGPT answers
- verify crawler access for GPTBot and ClaudeBot
- build competitive comparison reports across multiple search models
Example prompts for the agent
- Run citations_provenance to find which sources LLMs cite for cloud database providers
- Check whether our domain is mentioned across AI engines using domain_am_i_cited
- Verify crawler permissions for our site with audit_crawler_access
