Google Maps MCP Server — Claude Code MCP server
This MCP server gives AI agents 18 read-only Google Maps tools for place search, routing, geocoding, weather, and local SEO research.
claude mcp add --env GOOGLE_MAPS_API_KEY=<GOOGLE_MAPS_API_KEY> --env GOOGLE_MAPS_ENABLED_TOOLS=<GOOGLE_MAPS_ENABLED_TOOLS> --transport stdio google-maps-mcp-server -- npx -y @cablate/mcp-google-mapWhat Google Maps MCP Server does
Google Maps MCP Server connects Google Maps Platform to an AI agent through 18 read-only tools. It can search for places and nearby results, return details, ratings, hours, reviews, and distances, then check routes, weather, and air quality. Composite workflows cover candidate comparison, along-route stops, trip planning, and local search visibility.
The server supports MCP over stdio or Streamable HTTP. It also includes three Skills and a standalone exec CLI that returns JSON. Set GOOGLE_MAPS_ENABLED_TOOLS to register a narrower tool set. Node.js 22+ and a Google Maps Platform API key are required, while selected workflows may need Places API (New), Routes API, or Geocoding API. Without GOOGLE_MAPS_API_KEY, the server will not start, and live Google calls may incur charges.
What it helps with
- find real places from a natural-language request
- compare nearby candidates by distance, ratings, and opening hours
- build routes with multiple stops
- plan trips with travel-time and weather checks
- measure local search visibility on a geographic grid
Example prompts for the agent
- Find quiet cafes near
Tokyo Stationand compare their distance and opening hours. - Plan a route with several stops, check travel times, and order the stops geographically.
- Audit this business on a geographic ranking grid and compare nearby competitors.
