What AdGuard Home MCP Server does

The server exposes AdGuard Home operations to an AI assistant through natural-language requests. Its 65 tools cover 16 categories, including DNS, filtering, query logs, statistics, clients, DHCP, rewrites, and access settings.

The full tier permits reads and state changes. Set ADGUARD_ACCESS_TIER=read-only to expose 29 monitoring tools without write operations. Categories and individual tools can be narrowed with environment variables, so the assistant sees only the surface you choose.

You can run it with npx or Docker over stdio or HTTP. ADGUARD_URL is required, while admin credentials are used when authentication is enabled in AdGuard Home. The server checks the connection during startup, so invalid credentials prevent it from starting.

What it helps with

  • manage AdGuard Home DNS filtering from an AI assistant
  • inspect DNS query logs and service statistics
  • configure clients and DHCP settings
  • edit domain rewrite rules
  • limit the assistant to read-only monitoring

Example prompts for the agent

  • Show the current AdGuard Home DNS settings and recent query-log entries.
  • Add a rewrite rule for the domain I provide.
  • Inspect clients and DHCP without changing server state.
