vercel-cli-with-tokens — Claude Code skill: token-based Vercel deploys
Lets your agent drive the Vercel CLI with an access token instead of an interactive login: find the token, link the project, ship a preview, edit env vars.
npx skills add vercel-labs/agent-skills --skill vercel-cli-with-tokens -a claude-codeWhat vercel-cli-with-tokens does
The skill walks the agent through Vercel CLI work without vercel login. It hunts for the token in order: VERCEL_TOKEN in the environment, then .env, then any variable with vercel in the name. Nothing found means it asks you for one.
Exports beat flags here. --token on the command line leaves the secret in shell history and process listings, so the token goes into an environment variable instead. Then the agent looks for VERCEL_ORG_ID and VERCEL_PROJECT_ID; together they replace the .vercel/ directory, alone they throw an error. The team slug can be cut out of the project URL.
Deploys land as preview unless you ask for --prod. An unlinked project goes through vercel link --repo, which matches on the git remote rather than the folder name. Check state with vercel ls or vercel whoami — vercel link and vercel project inspect in an unlinked directory can prompt or quietly link as a side effect. You need Node and npm install -g vercel. No Vercel in your stack? Skip it.
What it helps with
- deploy a project to Vercel from the terminal without interactive login
- read the token from
.envwithout leaking it into shell history - push environment variables to production and preview
- link a repo to a Vercel project through its git remote
- check deployment status and build logs with
vercel inspect
Example prompts for the agent
- deploy this to Vercel as a preview, the token is in `.env`
- add `DATABASE_URL` to the production environment on Vercel
- link the repo to the project and show me the latest deployment

Questions about vercel-cli-with-tokens
How do I install vercel-cli-with-tokens in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add vercel-labs/agent-skills --skill vercel-cli-with-tokens -a claude-code. The skill lands at ~/.claude/skills/vercel-cli-with-tokens/SKILL.md.
What does vercel-cli-with-tokens do?
It teaches the agent to run Vercel CLI tasks from a token: locate the credential, link the repo, deploy a preview or production build, manage vercel env, inspect the result.
Do I still need `vercel login`?
No. Everything runs off an access token in VERCEL_TOKEN, and the skill keeps you from passing it as a --token flag where it would be exposed.
