topic-monitor — Claude Code skill: track topics, get alerts
This skill watches the topics you pick on a schedule, scores each finding for importance, and sends an alert or a weekly digest.
npx skills add sundial-org/awesome-openclaw-skills --skill topic-monitor -a claude-codeWhat topic-monitor does
The skill makes your assistant proactive instead of reactive: it searches for news on the subjects you care about and pings you only when something matters. Topics live in config.json, each with a search query, keywords, a check frequency (hourly, daily, weekly), an importance threshold and delivery channels such as telegram or discord.
A set of Python scripts does the work. setup.py runs an interactive wizard and writes config.json, manage_topics.py adds, edits and removes topics, monitor.py performs the main run, digest.py builds the weekly report, and setup_cron.py wires up automatic runs. Searching goes through web-search-plus or the built-in web_search, then an AI scorer rates every result: high importance fires an alert right away, medium is saved for the digest, low is dropped. State is updated so the same item is not sent twice.
You need Python 3 and a scheduler such as cron — without one you run monitor.py by hand. Test the setup with python3 scripts/monitor.py --dry-run before going live: it shows what would happen and sends nothing.
What it helps with
- track library releases without missing a major bump
- catch critical CVEs before a patch lands
- get a weekly roundup instead of a stream of links
- filter noise so only important news reaches you
- run several topics at different check frequencies from one config
Example prompts for the agent
- set up monitoring for the topic "AI Model Releases", daily checks, alert on high importance
- add a CVE topic with keywords critical, patch and hourly frequency
- show what the eth-price topic would find, without sending alerts
