jina-reader — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Fetches clean Markdown from web pages, runs web searches, and checks factual claims using the Jina API. Keeps your server IP address hidden.
npx skills add sundial-org/awesome-openclaw-skills --skill jina-reader -a claude-codeWhat jina-reader does
The skill runs reader.sh to route requests through Jina AI infrastructure. It provides three operating modes: reading a page into clean Markdown, searching the web for the top 5 results with full text, and fact-checking specific claims. Because pages are fetched through remote headless Chrome instances, target servers never see your server IP.
You can tune the extraction with CLI flags. The --selector option targets a specific DOM block, while --remove strips out ads and navigation before parsing. It also supports geo-proxies via --proxy, bypassing cache with --nocache, and outputs in Markdown, text, HTML, or screenshot format.
To use it, you must have curl and jq installed in your environment, plus a JINA_API_KEY token. The free tier grants 10M tokens without registration. Fact-checking queries consume around 300K tokens and take roughly 30s, so running repeated checks will deplete credits quickly.
What it helps with
- extract clean Markdown from JavaScript-heavy web pages
- strip ads and navigation menus via CSS selectors before processing
- retrieve the top 5 web search results with full page content
- verify factual claims through the ground mode
Example prompts for the agent
- Run a web search for enterprise AI trends using jina-reader in search mode
- Verify whether the company was founded in 2015 using jina-reader ground mode
- Fetch page content into markdown using jina-reader with the selector article.main
