What stock-quote does

The skill routes user stock queries to the octagon-mcp server using the octagon-agent tool. It resolves the equity ticker and fetches live data from octagon-stock-data-agent. The output details price changes, exchange venue, trading volume, day range, and market cap.

The skill will fail without a configured Octagon MCP server. Setup must happen beforehand. Ensure Octagon MCP is active in your agent configuration, such as Cursor, Claude Desktop, or Windsurf.

Beyond spot quotes, the skill provides technical indicators like 50-day and 200-day moving averages. These metrics clarify trend momentum and positions relative to 52-week boundaries.

What it helps with

  • retrieve real-time stock prices and daily changes
  • check 50-day and 200-day moving averages
  • compare stock price against its 52-week trading range
  • inspect market capitalization and daily trading volume

Example prompts for the agent

  • Get real-time stock quote for the symbol AAPL.
  • What are the 50-day and 200-day moving averages for AMZN?
  • Where is NVDA trading relative to its 52-week range?
