What earnings-call-insights does

Give the skill a ticker and it reads the latest earnings call transcript, then returns the parts people usually dig for by hand: revenue and margin guidance, EPS expectations, capital allocation plans, segment commentary. It also collects risk factors and reads management tone — confident, cautious, defensive.

It runs on Octagon MCP. Set that up first; the repo ships references/mcp-setup.md with the steps. Without a configured MCP the skill has no transcript to work from, so check that before anything else.

You can narrow the request. Ask only about revenue and margin guidance, only about competitive positioning, or only about buybacks and dividends. Output comes back grouped by category: financial outlook, strategic highlights, segment performance, risk factors, capital allocation, management sentiment. There are separate reference files for interpreting results and tables for judging signals like raised or lowered guidance.

What it helps with

  • extract revenue and margin guidance from a call transcript
  • compare management tone against the prior quarter
  • list the risk factors management raised on the call
  • check buyback, dividend and CapEx plans
  • tell whether guidance was raised or cut

Example prompts for the agent
