journal-reflection — Claude Code skill: use and install
Guides end-of-day, weekly, decision, and learning reviews, then saves the result as Obsidian-ready Markdown when the vault can be reached.
npx skills add gasserane/personal-skills --skill journal-reflection -a claude-codeWhat journal-reflection does
This skill runs a focused reflection in one of five modes: daily review, weekly review, decision review, learning log, or a short post-deliverable capture. It asks each question in sequence and waits for the response, so the note is built from the user’s own answers rather than invented content.
The output uses YAML frontmatter, H2 sections, and Obsidian [[wiki-links]]. Daily and weekly entries go to 5 JURNAL/5a Daily Notes/YYYY-MM-DD.md and 5 JURNAL/5b Weekly Notes/YYYY-Www.md; decisions and learning notes use their own paths. The vault path must be reachable for direct writing. Otherwise, the skill returns the Markdown and the target path for manual saving.
Post-deliverable notes are appended to 5 JURNAL/Learning/deliverable-learning-log.md, preserving earlier entries. Skipped prompts are marked, and dg-publish can be set to true when the note is intended for publication.
What it helps with
- review what moved forward during a day
- scan a week for recurring work patterns
- revisit the assumptions behind a decision
- connect a new framework to existing knowledge
- capture lessons from a completed deliverable
Example prompts for the agent
- Run an end-of-day reflection and save the note to my Obsidian vault.
- Ask me the weekly review questions one at a time, then write the result.
- Capture what I learned from the completed deliverable in the running log.

Questions about journal-reflection
How do I install journal-reflection in Claude Code?
Run npx skills add gasserane/personal-skills --skill journal-reflection -a claude-code. The skill will be available at ~/.claude/skills/journal-reflection/SKILL.md.
What does journal-reflection do?
It guides a structured review of a day, week, past decision, or new learning, then produces Markdown that works with Obsidian. Questions are asked one at a time and are not answered on the user’s behalf.
What happens when the Obsidian vault cannot be reached?
The skill returns the finished Markdown in the reply and names the destination path so it can be saved manually.
