groove-utilities-task-update — Claude Code skill: install
Updates an existing task’s status, body, or metadata in the configured backend. It keeps progress notes and requires confirmation before completion.
npx skills add andreadellacorte/groove --skill groove-utilities-task-update -a claude-codeWhat groove-utilities-task-update does
The skill reads tasks.backend from .groove/index.md and routes the update to the selected system. It supports beans, linear, and github: Beans uses beans update, GitHub uses gh issue edit plus label or close commands, and Linear is handled through its CLI or MCP. With tasks.backend: none, the skill leaves the task unchanged.
Existing task text stays intact. New progress is added as dated bullets under Progress. Before a task is completed or scrapped, the body must contain either Summary of Changes or Reasons for Scrapping, and the user must confirm the action. Completion is blocked when that resolution section is missing.
What it helps with
- change a task status in the configured backend
- append progress without replacing the task body
- edit metadata on an existing task
- record a resolution before closing work
- scrap a task with a written reason
Example prompts for the agent
- Update the task status and append a note about the current progress.
- Add a summary of the changes to the task body, then ask me to confirm completion.
- Scrap the task after adding the reason to its body.

Progress notes are appended without overwriting existing content. When completing a task, a resolution (Summary of Changes or Reasons for Scrapping) is written to the task body before marking done. ## Acceptance Criteria - Specified fields are updated in backend - Existing body content is preserved; new content is appended - Completed tasks have a "Summary of Changes" or "Reasons for Scrapping" section in body - User confirms before task is marked as completed or scrapped ## Constraints - Read `tasks.backend` from `.groove/index.md` to determine backend - If `tasks.backend: none`, no-op with friendly message - Never mark a task completed without a resolution section in the body - Ask user to provide resolution if task body has none - User must explicitly confirm completion — do not auto-complete - Progress notes should be appended as dated bullets under a "Progress" section - Backend mappings: - `beans`: `beans update <id> -s <status>` and `beans update <id> -d "<body>"` - `linear`: update issue via linear CLI or MCP - `github`: `gh issue edit <number> --body "<body>"` and label/close commands
