context-mode — Claude Code skill for large outputs
This skill routes large files and command output through context-mode tools instead of Bash. Use it to inspect logs, test results, data files, or page snapshots.
npx skills add mksglu/context-mode --skill context-mode -a claude-codeWhat context-mode does
The skill directs commands that read files, run tests, query data, or call external services to ctx_execute and ctx_execute_file. Bash remains available for small operations such as pwd, echo, and file mutations. When output size is uncertain, its rule is to use context-mode.
For web documentation, it uses ctx_fetch_and_index followed by ctx_search. Playwright snapshots are saved to a file for indexing or analysis with ctx_execute_file. The instructions also cover handling MCP tool output and choosing a language for different kinds of data work.
Playwright snapshots need to be saved with the filename parameter; the instructions say to ignore the automatic snapshot returned by browser_navigate. There is a practical constraint: Playwright MCP uses one browser instance, so parallel browser operations are not safe. The skill points to agent-browser for parallel automation.
What it helps with
- extract errors from a large log file
- run tests and inspect their output
- compare branches and review recent commits
- analyze CSV or JSON without loading the full file into context
- search indexed web documentation
Example prompts for the agent
- Analyze `error.log` and list the errors.
- Run the tests and identify failures in the output.
- Save a page snapshot to a file and find the form elements.

Questions about context-mode
How do I install context-mode in Codex?
Run npx skills add mksglu/context-mode --skill context-mode -a codex. The skill file is at .agents/skills/context-mode/SKILL.md.
What does context-mode do?
It routes large outputs, files, and command results through ctx_execute or ctx_execute_file, while leaving small, safe operations to Bash.
How should I inspect Playwright snapshots?
Save the snapshot with the filename parameter, then use ctx_index and ctx_search or ctx_execute_file. Playwright MCP shares one browser instance, so parallel operations with it are not safe.
