competitor-analysis · cognyai — Claude Code skill: research rivals fast
Pulls positioning, pricing and market gaps for a company or a whole category. Runs with no accounts; connecting Cogny MCP swaps guesses for data.
npx skills add cognyai/claude-code-marketing-skills --skill competitor-analysis -a claude-codeWhat competitor-analysis does
The skill runs as /competitor-analysis and takes a company or URL. Point it at one domain and it profiles that player; give it a category name and it maps the field instead. It starts by hunting for 4–6 rivals through web search, then fetches their homepages and key pages for headlines, target audience, pricing, customer logos and recent news.
Out of the box it leans on WebSearch and WebFetch, so you need no paid accounts. Hook up Cogny MCP and the picture sharpens: keyword overlap from Semrush and Ahrefs, paid search terms, Domain Rating, plus a check of how often a brand shows up in AI answers. Every connected provider replaces a guess with a number. Semrush and Ahrefs estimate traffic differently, so the report labels each DR figure “Domain Rating by Ahrefs” and keeps the two sources in separate columns.
AI visibility checks burn credits, so set engines to cap a run. Google Ads stay invisible to web search: the skill points you to the Ads Transparency Center, which shows creatives but not keywords, so brand-term bidding counts as unverified unless you check it yourself or Semrush is connected.
What it helps with
- build a shortlist of real competitors from a domain or category
- compare pricing models across several players
- spot positioning gaps and underserved segments
- see which pages actually pull traffic for rivals
- check whether a brand appears in AI assistant answers
Example prompts for the agent
- Analyze competitors for hubspot.com and give me a table with pricing and positioning
- Research the "marketing automation tools" category and find the segment nobody covers
