cmux-customization — Claude Code skill: what it does, how to install
Configures the cmux workspace manager: edits cmux.json, wires Command Palette actions, sets dock terminals, and routes terminal-level styling directly to Ghostty.
npx skills add manaflow-ai/cmux --skill cmux-customization -a claude-codeWhat cmux-customization does
The skill directs an AI coding agent through editing cmux layouts and viewer preferences. Before touching any file, it inspects existing setups across global paths like ~/.config/cmux/cmux.json and project-level .cmux/cmux.json, making a timestamped backup copy first. App settings and shortcuts run through the schema-aware cmux-settings helper, while terminal-level rendering options such as fonts or color schemes are routed straight to Ghostty configuration instead of invented cmux settings.
Custom actions, tab bar buttons, right-click menus, and workspace split layouts are written directly into JSONC. Project-local entries override global IDs with the same name, which keeps repository-specific dev server or watcher docks isolated. Once changes are written, the agent runs schema validation and triggers cmux reload-config to apply them immediately. Hardcoding API tokens or secrets in command definitions is strictly avoided in favor of environment variables.
What it helps with
- add custom actions and agent launchers to the Command Palette
- configure workspace split layouts and dock terminals in
.cmux/dock.json - route terminal links and markdown files to internal cmux viewers
- migrate fonts and terminal color palettes from iTerm2, Alacritty, or Kitty
- validate JSONC syntax and reload cmux configuration safely
Example prompts for the agent
- Add a new action in cmux Command Palette to run git status in a split pane
- Configure the cmux plus button to open a project dev workspace by default
- Route terminal URLs to the built-in cmux browser in ~/.config/cmux/cmux.json
