cmux-diagnostics — Claude Code skill: cmux health check

Skill runs read-only cmux diagnostics: sockets, hooks, session restore, settings. Use when notifications fail, agents don't resume, or you need a support-safe debug report.

What cmux-diagnostics does

cmux-diagnostics collects diagnostics in read-only mode and never exposes secrets, tokens, or hook configs. The script checks CLI availability, socket connectivity, hook status, session stores, and settings paths.

Run the skill when an agent fails to restore after restart, notifications go silent, or browser automation breaks. It suggests a narrow fix—such as reinstalling a hook for a specific agent—instead of a full reset. After you apply the fix, the skill reruns diagnostics and shows what changed.

Read-only by default: never prints raw configs, prompt logs, or histories. Instead, reports file size, modified time, and marker presence.

What it helps with

  • Verify cmux sockets work and CLI is accessible
  • Find why an agent won't resume inside a cmux terminal
  • Confirm hooks are installed and enabled for the current agent
  • Diagnose broken cmux notifications
  • Collect a debug report for support without leaking sensitive data

Example prompts for the agent

  • Run cmux diagnostics and tell me what's broken
  • Check cmux health for this agent, include session context
  • Show me why notifications fail and how to fix it
