What choose-zoom-approach does

The skill gives the agent a decision table that maps problem types to the correct Zoom surface. Backend automation — REST API. Events to your server — webhooks or WebSocket. Embed meetings — Meeting SDK. Fully custom video — Video SDK. AI-agent tool workflows — Zoom MCP.

Not user-invocable (user-invocable: false). It triggers when the agent sees a Zoom architecture question and returns one recommended path, minimum supporting components, hard constraints, and the next implementation step. Guardrails inside: don't recommend Video SDK when the user needs Zoom meeting semantics, don't replace deterministic automation with MCP-only guidance.

What it helps with

  • choose between REST API and webhooks for Zoom automation
  • pick Meeting SDK or Video SDK for custom video
  • design a hybrid architecture combining Zoom surfaces
  • avoid the wrong Zoom API choice for a use case
  • map backend automation needs to Zoom tools

Example prompts for the agent

  • I need to embed Zoom meetings in my app — which API should I use?
  • How do I connect Zoom webhooks to my backend for events?
  • I need a custom video chat without Zoom meeting logic, what do I use?

Questions about choose-zoom-approach

How to install choose-zoom-approach in Claude Code?

Run npx skills add anthropics/knowledge-work-plugins --skill choose-zoom-approach -a claude-code. The skill will appear in ~/.claude/skills/choose-zoom-approach/SKILL.md.

What does the choose-zoom-approach skill do?

Gives the agent a decision table that maps problem types to the correct Zoom surface: REST API for automation, Meeting SDK for embedding meetings, Video SDK for custom video, webhooks for events, Zoom MCP for AI agents. Returns one recommended path and the next step.

When do I need Meeting SDK vs Video SDK?

Meeting SDK when you embed Zoom meetings in your app and need full Zoom semantics (scheduling, participants, recording). Video SDK when you build a fully custom video product without meeting logic.

# Choose Zoom Approach

Pick the smallest correct Zoom surface for the job, then layer in only the supporting pieces that are actually required.

## Decision Framework

| Problem Type | Primary Zoom Surface |
|---|---|
| Deterministic backend automation, account management, reporting, scheduled jobs | [rest-api](../rest-api/SKILL.md) |
| Event delivery to your backend | [webhooks](../webhooks/SKILL.md) or [websockets](../websockets/SKILL.md) |
| Embed Zoom meetings into your app | [meeting-sdk](../meeting-sdk/SKILL.md) |
| Build a fully custom video experience | [video-sdk](../video-sdk/SKILL.md) |
| Build inside the Zoom client | [zoom-apps-sdk](../zoom-apps-sdk/SKILL.md) |
| AI-agent tool workflows over Zoom data | [zoom-mcp](../zoom-mcp/SKILL.md) |
| Real-time media extraction or meeting bots | [rtms](../rtms/SKILL.md) plus [meeting-sdk](../meeting-sdk/SKILL.md) when needed |
| Phone workflows | [phone](../phone/SKILL.md) |
| Contact Center or Virtual Agent flows | [contact-center](../contact-center/SKILL.md) or [virtual-agent](../virtual-agent/SKILL.md) |

## Guardrails

- Do not recommend Video SDK when the user actually needs Zoom meeting semantics.
- Do not recommend Meeting SDK when the user needs a fully custom session product.
- Do not replace deterministic backend automation with MCP-only guidance.
- Prefer hybrid `rest-api + zoom-mcp` when the user needs both stable system actions and AI-driven discovery.

## What To Produce

- One recommended path
- Minimum supporting components
- Hard constraints and tradeoffs
- Immediate next implementation step
