Windows-MCP — Claude Code MCP server for Windows control
An MCP server that hands your AI agent the Windows desktop: launch apps, click, type, and read window state.
claude mcp add windows-mcp -- uvx windows-mcpWhat Windows-MCP does
Windows-MCP connects an LLM to the Windows operating system. The agent opens programs, presses buttons, types text, and captures the state of a window or a web page. It works with any model — no separate vision model required.
The package ships tools for keyboard, mouse, and UI capture. State-Tool has a use_dom=True mode that keeps only page content and drops browser chrome; it supports Chrome, Edge, and Firefox. Latency between actions usually runs 0.2–0.5 seconds and depends on system load and model speed.
You need Python 3.14+ and the UV package manager. The server targets Windows 10 and 11; the current installation will not work on older Windows releases. The first run can take a minute or two while dependencies install, and the server may time out — restart it if that happens.
What it helps with
- open an app and walk through its steps
- check a program's UI after a build
- fill in a web form through the agent
- capture window state and hand it to the model
- run a browser QA scenario without manual clicks
Example prompts for the agent
- Open Calculator and multiply 128 by 47
- Find the schedule page in Chrome and list the first three rows
- Take a screenshot of the active window and describe what looks wrong
