Whoop MCP Server — Claude Code MCP server: install guide
Gives your AI agent live WHOOP data: recovery, sleep, strain, workouts. Self-hosted, encrypted tokens, no history stored — you deploy it, set the password, and approve each app.
Open on GitHubWhat Whoop MCP Server does
The server exposes six tools: morning briefing (get_today), recovery trends with resting heart rate and SpO2 (get_recovery_trends), sleep breakdown by stages and cycles (get_sleep_analysis), strain and steps history (get_strain_history), workout list with heart-rate zones and elevation (get_workouts), and a link to connect your WHOOP account (get_auth_url). Every request hits the WHOOP API live — data is always current. The server stores only signed sessions and encrypted refresh tokens; no metrics are cached.
Access is OAuth 2.1: each app asks for the password you set in MCP_AUTH_PASSWORD and connects only after you approve it. Without a WHOOP Developer account and two keys (WHOOP_CLIENT_ID, WHOOP_CLIENT_SECRET), the server refuses to start. The author recommends Railway (template ready, volume mounted), but the Docker image ghcr.io/yuridivonis/whoop-mcp-server:1 runs anywhere. You need a volume at /data; without it, every redeploy clears sessions.
Independent project, MIT license, not endorsed by WHOOP.
What it helps with
- get a morning briefing: recovery, last night's sleep, today's strain
- analyze sleep for a week with stages, cycles and sleep need
- pull resting heart rate, HRV and skin temperature trends for a period
- list workouts with heart-rate zones and distance
- give an agent access to WHOOP data without a public API key
Example prompts for the agent
- How did I sleep this week?
- Show me recovery and resting heart rate for the past seven days
- What's my strain and calories for today?

Questions about Whoop MCP Server
How to install Whoop MCP Server in Claude Code?
Deploy the image ghcr.io/yuridivonis/whoop-mcp-server:1 on Railway or in Docker, set MCP_AUTH_PASSWORD, WHOOP_CLIENT_ID and WHOOP_CLIENT_SECRET, mount a volume at /data, add the server address to Claude Code settings as an MCP server. On first request, the agent asks for the password and a link to connect your WHOOP account.
What does Whoop MCP Server do?
Gives your agent live WHOOP data: recovery, sleep, strain, workouts — through six MCP tools. Every request goes to the WHOOP API in real time; the server stores only sessions and tokens, no metrics cached.
What do I need to run Whoop MCP Server?
A WHOOP Developer account with two keys (WHOOP_CLIENT_ID, WHOOP_CLIENT_SECRET), a password in MCP_AUTH_PASSWORD (at least 16 characters), and a volume at /data to persist sessions. Without the volume, every redeploy clears the WHOOP connection.
