video-editing-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: video search and edits
Wires Video Jungle into your agent so it can pull in a video by URL, search it by meaning, and cut a rough edit without leaving the chat.
claude mcp add video-editing-mcp -e VJ_API_KEY=<VJ_API_KEY> -- uvx video-editor-mcpWhat video-editing-mcp does
The server hands the agent a set of Video Jungle tools. add-video grabs a file from a URL and queues it for analysis; both audio and visuals get indexed, so later queries can hit spoken words or on-screen content. search-videos matches on embeddings and keywords, and generate-edit-from-videos or generate-edit-from-single-video turns those matches into a rendered cut.
Local editing goes through edit-locally, which builds an OpenTimelineIO project and downloads it for you to open in Davinci Resolve Studio. Resolve Studio has to be running before you call that tool. On macOS, searching your Photos library needs LOAD_PHOTOS_DB=1 set in the environment.
A Video Jungle account and API key are required. The key goes to the server at launch, as in uv run video-editor-mcp YOURAPIKEY. Videos and projects are addressed through the vj:// URI scheme, and search results carry metadata about what appears in a video and when — enough to drive edit generation.
What it helps with
- locate every moment a phrase is spoken in a long recording
- cut a rough edit across several source files from search hits
- ingest a video by URL and get it analyzed automatically
- export a timeline as OpenTimelineIO for Davinci Resolve Studio
- search a macOS Photos library by Apple tags
Example prompts for the agent
- Download the video at this URL and name it fly traps
- Search my videos for fly traps
