Uplink — Claude Code MCP server: drive a real browser

Runs a real browser on a device you pair, inside a session you are already signed into. Useful when headless automation gets blocked at login or by a captcha.

What Uplink does

Uplink takes over a phone or laptop you have paired. The model works inside your live session, so it sees the actual DOM, the network requests and the console output. Nothing is stored on the server side, because you sign in yourself in your own browser.

Setup goes in two steps. You ask your AI client to connect and it hands back a pairing link; you open that link on the device in the Uplink Connect app. Before any of that, sign in once with npx @uplink-code/cli login — the server reads the credentials that CLI writes.

The package is proprietary, not open source. You need Node.js so npx can fetch it. Pair a device where you are not signed in and there is nothing for the model to drive.

What it helps with

  • walk through a flow on a site that blocks headless browsers
  • see how a page behaves inside a logged-in account
  • capture real network traffic and console errors
  • let an agent reach a site without handing over a password

Example prompts for the agent

  • Connect through Uplink and open the orders page in my account
  • Run the checkout flow on the paired device and show me what goes over the network
  • Pull the console errors from this page with Uplink

Questions about Uplink

How do I install Uplink in Claude Code?

One command: claude mcp add uplink -- npx -y @uplink-code/mcp. Then sign in with npx @uplink-code/cli login, or the server has no credentials to use.

What does Uplink do?

It drives a real browser on a device you pair and exposes that session's DOM, network traffic and console to the model.

Do I have to store site passwords anywhere?

No. You sign in yourself in your browser, and the server works inside the session that is already open.
