UNITARES — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
A self-hosted record that preserves agent decisions, lineage, and test results across session restarts and handoffs.
Open on GitHubWhat UNITARES does
Long-running coding sessions often lose progress during restarts. When one agent finishes or crashes, the next process usually starts blind. UNITARES operates as a local shared log. Agents record discoveries, link new facts to replaced hypotheses, and verify test outcomes through standard MCP calls.
The backend relies on PostgreSQL with AGE and pgvector extensions alongside Redis. MCP clients connect directly to http://localhost:8767/mcp/. During check-ins, the runtime policy responds with proceed, guide, or pause statuses, temporarily halting execution if review rules demand it. Agents can also query secondary engines like Ollama through the consult feature.
Keep in mind that no language model integrations come preconfigured out of the box. You will need a functioning Docker Compose environment to launch the infrastructure.
What it helps with
- maintain decision history and evidence across agent restarts
- mark outdated hypotheses when a successor finds the real bug
- track build and test results against prior agent check-ins
- pause agent actions automatically until review conditions clear
Example prompts for the agent
- Check UNITARES shared memory for previous investigation notes on the flaky upload test
- Record this clock skew bug and mark the earlier flaky test finding as superseded
- Use the consult tool to get an external opinion from Ollama on this schema migration

Questions about UNITARES
How to install UNITARES for Claude Code?
Clone the repository and run Docker Compose: `v=$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/cirwel/unitares/master/PUBLISHED_VERSION) && git clone --branch "v$v" --depth 1 https://github.com/cirwel/unitares.git && cd unitares && docker compose up -d --wait. Then configure your MCP client to access http://localhost:8767/mcp/`.
What does UNITARES do?
It stores an audit trail of agent hypotheses, reviews, and test outcomes so replacement processes can resume tasks without repeating errors.
What infrastructure is required to run the server?
The deployment requires Docker Compose to run the server alongside PostgreSQL with AGE and pgvector plus Redis. Alternatively, Apple Silicon users can install native services using Homebrew.
