Unbrowse — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Unbrowse routes website tasks through first-party APIs instead of headless browsers. It speeds up web interactions and lowers costs for autonomous agents.
claude mcp add --transport http unbrowse https://unbrowse.ai/mcpWhat Unbrowse does
The tool replaces browser automation by directly calling the HTTP endpoints that web frontends use. When a domain is already registered in private capabilities or the public tool registry, the agent completes tasks without opening a headless browser instance.
For unmapped targets, Unbrowse learns endpoints from two recorded HAR archives with unbrowse learn, or runs an initial pass inside a cloud-hosted browser. User passwords remain inside the hosted password manager. They never pass through the CLI interface.
Execution requires connectivity to https://unbrowse.ai/mcp. You must authenticate via npx unbrowse login or set the UNBROWSE_API_KEY token.
What it helps with
- scrape webpage content to Markdown without headless rendering
- run recurring website tasks by replaying backend HTTP calls
- compile automated web capabilities from two HAR network logs
- isolate site credentials inside a hosted password manager
Example prompts for the agent
- Fetch the top stories from Hacker News using Unbrowse
- Scrape
https://unbrowse.aiand return its content in Markdown format - Check the public registry for precompiled tools with
unbrowse registry

Questions about Unbrowse
How do I install Unbrowse in Claude Code?
Run this command in your terminal: claude mcp add --transport http unbrowse https://unbrowse.ai/mcp.
What does the Unbrowse MCP server do?
It executes web tasks by targeting a site's internal HTTP endpoints rather than rendering pages in a browser. This reduces agent latency and infrastructure costs.
How does Unbrowse handle logins and passwords?
Passwords stay stored inside the remote password manager and are never sent to the CLI. Authentication uses browser OAuth via npx unbrowse login or an API key.
