TakoData-tako-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: live search and data
Wires live web search and licensed datasets into your agent: company financials, macro indicators, site traffic. Useful when you need numbers, not a summary of articles.
claude mcp add --transport http takodata-tako-mcp https://server.smithery.ai/@TakoData/tako-mcp/mcpWhat TakoData-tako-mcp does
The server is hosted at https://mcp.tako.com/mcp, so there is nothing to run locally. An anonymous connection gets you tako_search under a rate limit; the remaining tools ask you to sign in when called. Signing in mints a per-host key automatically, and new accounts come with up to 2,000 free requests.
The toolset splits into four jobs. Search covers Tako's knowledge graph and the live web, with each result card rendered as a chart, and tako_contents reads the rows behind it. You can also find out which proprietary datasets exist for a given entity or metric, pull the underlying rows as JSON, or grab a page's text from a result URL. Your own structured data can become an embeddable card with a link anyone can open.
CI jobs and headless clients can't use the OAuth sign-in, so they need an API key. If you added the server by hand earlier with claude mcp add, remove that entry first (claude mcp remove tako-mcp) — otherwise every tool shows up twice. The Claude plugin also ships lookup and research skills.
What it helps with
- pull a company's financials instead of reading news summaries
- check site traffic and country-level macro indicators
- get the rows behind a result URL as JSON
- turn your own table into a chart card and share the link
- run multi-step research on a metric through the Answer Agent
Example prompts for the agent
- Find Nvidia's revenue for the last quarter and chart it
- Which proprietary datasets exist for this company?
- Build a card from my CSV and give me the link

Questions about TakoData-tako-mcp
How do I install TakoData-tako-mcp in Claude Code?
Through Smithery: claude mcp add --transport http takodata-tako-mcp https://server.smithery.ai/@TakoData/tako-mcp/mcp. Then check the connection with claude mcp list.
What does TakoData-tako-mcp do?
It gives an agent live web search plus Tako's knowledge graph, alongside licensed data: company financials, macro indicators, website traffic, sports, US government spending. Results arrive as chart cards, and tako_contents reads the rows behind them.
Do I need an API key?
A normal setup only needs the OAuth sign-in, which mints a per-host key for you. CI jobs and clients without OAuth need an API key.
