Synaptic Code Intelligence — Claude Code MCP server
This MCP server maps repository relationships so an agent can trace change impact, select tests, and search project history. Use it when source files alone make a codebase hard to navigate.
Open on GitHubWhat Synaptic Code Intelligence does
Synaptic builds a repository graph linking symbols, calls, imports, dependencies, and tests. An agent can ask what relies on a symbol, which areas a change may affect, or which tests fit modified files. Repository history is searchable too, including past decisions and incidents.
For local analysis, install the binary and create a graph with synaptic extract .; keep it current with synaptic update or synaptic watch. To connect the hosted MCP service to Claude Code, use the project URL and replace {project_id} with your project identifier. Code extraction runs locally, while network-backed features require explicit enablement.
Supported clients include Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf (Devin Desktop), Cline, and Zed. Setup commands are available for Claude Code, Codex, and other clients; the command below is for Claude Code. Synaptic ships as a Rust binary, so local extraction does not require a separate runtime.
What it helps with
- trace dependencies and callers of a symbol
- estimate which code a change could affect
- select tests for modified files
- search repository history for past decisions
Example prompts for the agent
- Trace the dependencies of
parse_configand show what its change could affect. - Assess the risk of editing
src/auth.rsand select relevant tests. - Search repository history for decisions about authentication.
