Steam MCP Server — Claude Code MCP server: setup
Lets an AI agent query Steam games, store data, and player accounts. Use it for game discovery, price checks, or library questions.
claude mcp add --env STEAM_API_KEY=<STEAM_API_KEY> --env STEAM_ID=<STEAM_ID> --env STEAM_COUNTRY=<STEAM_COUNTRY> --env STEAM_LANGUAGE=<STEAM_LANGUAGE> --transport stdio steam-mcp-server -- npx -y steam-games-mcpWhat Steam MCP Server does
Steam MCP Server exposes Steam data through MCP. An agent can search for games, inspect prices, discounts, genres, age ratings, reviews, and store news. Store queries work without a credential, so basic discovery needs only the server connection.
Player-focused requests use the free Steam Web API and STEAM_ID. They cover profiles, owned games, achievements, wishlists, and friends. The server runs over stdio with npx -y steam-games-mcp and is read-only: it does not launch games, post content, trade, or buy anything.
Your Steam profile and game details must be public for requests about your own library and achievements. Configuration uses STEAM_API_KEY, STEAM_ID, STEAM_COUNTRY, and STEAM_LANGUAGE; the last two values control the store region and language.
What it helps with
- search Steam by game title
- check current prices and discounts
- read review scores and store details
- track achievement progress and rarity
- inspect a personal game library
Example prompts for the agent
- Find discounted Steam games with strong review scores.
- Show the price, genres, and age rating for appid
620. - Review my library and sort the games by playtime.
