ShareBox — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Hosts small web utilities created by your AI assistant on your private ShareBox server, letting you distribute them to teammates via Google sign-in.
claude mcp add --env SHAREBOX_URL=<SHAREBOX_URL> --env SHAREBOX_TOKEN=<SHAREBOX_TOKEN> --transport stdio cli -- npx -y sharebox-cliWhat ShareBox does
The server links coding assistants with an on-premise ShareBox setup using sharebox-cli. Once connected, the model can generate mini apps and manage project permissions for specific mailboxes or entire Google Workspace accounts. Every hosted app operates inside an isolated sandbox with dedicated storage.
Available actions include sharebox_publish, sharebox_share, sharebox_rollback, and the bundled guide resource. Destructive actions are excluded by design. Clearing out a project requires terminal access via sharebox delete <tool> --yes to prevent models from destroying stored files.
Running the toolchain requires Node.js version 20 or higher alongside an accessible ShareBox host. Without valid SHAREBOX_URL and SHAREBOX_TOKEN parameters, the agent will fail to dispatch builds.
What it helps with
- deploy agent-crafted web apps directly to internal infrastructure
- grant project access to corporate Google Workspace emails
- revert broken deployments while preserving application storage
- pass external API credentials into tool sandboxes securely
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a team holiday schedule viewer and deploy it to ShareBox.
- /mcp__sharebox__build_tool idea="Invoice generator" share_with="[email protected]"
- List all tools currently hosted on my ShareBox instance.

Questions about ShareBox
How to install ShareBox in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add --env SHAREBOX_URL=<SHAREBOX_URL> --env SHAREBOX_TOKEN=<SHAREBOX_TOKEN> --transport stdio cli -- npx -y sharebox-cli. Ensure you have populated your server address and authentication token.
What does the ShareBox MCP server do?
It allows an AI agent to publish mini web applications to your private server. Every application receives automatic Google authentication, isolated data storage, and adjustable access lists.
Why is there no deletion tool available in MCP?
Tool deletion is omitted from MCP calls to prevent models from destroying stored files. Erasing an application requires explicit terminal execution with the --yes confirmation flag.
