What Derive does

The MCP server links your coding agent to Derive through an HTTP endpoint. It outputs HTML pages, Markdown notes, research papers, or static builds onto permanent URLs. Revisions stay under the same web address rather than generating separate disposable links.

Reviewers can attach feedback directly to highlighted sections in the browser. Connected agents fetch these notes via MCP and upload focused revisions without manual copy-pasting.

Artifact rendering is sandboxed behind an opaque origin to keep sessions safe from external cookies. Self-hosting requires just a single container backed by local storage and SQLite, or Postgres with S3 for larger setups.

What it helps with

  • share generated HTML designs or reports through permanent links
  • collect inline feedback from team members directly on rendered artifacts
  • feed human review notes back into the agent workflow for revisions
  • isolate untrusted rendered outputs on an opaque origin

Example prompts for the agent

  • Publish the current report.html to Derive and provide the claim link
  • Inspect the latest reviewer comments on Derive and revise the layout accordingly

Questions about Derive

How do I install Derive in Claude Code?

Run claude mcp add --transport http derive https://derive.to/mcp. This hooks your agent directly to the remote HTTP endpoint without local compilation.

What does the Derive MCP server do?

It gives your coding agent an export target for files and sites. Teammates inspect the output at a persistent URL, leave notes, and the agent reads them back to iterate.

Can Derive run on private infrastructure?

Yes, the platform packages into a single container running SQLite on local disk. Deployments can also scale out with PostgreSQL and S3-compatible storage.
