SearchPipe — Claude Code MCP server for web search: setup guide
Web search for AI agents: ranked hits with source URLs and an optional AI-written answer. Runs as a remote endpoint, so nothing goes on your machine.
claude mcp add --transport http searchpipe https://searchpipe.tech/mcp/What SearchPipe does
SearchPipe is a hosted search service that talks to an MCP client over Streamable HTTP. Your agent gets one tool, searchpipe_search, and calls it with a question. Back come numbered results with URLs and relevance scores. Turn on include_answer and you also get a model-written summary; turn on include_raw_content and each hit carries the full page text. Five results arrive unless you ask for more, up to 20.
There is no binary to install. You point the client at an endpoint and supply an sp-… key, either in the URL as api_key or in an Authorization: Bearer … header. The header keeps the key out of logged URLs. Keys come from the dashboard after signup and email verification, and new accounts start with free credits.
The repository also ships thin clients for Python and TypeScript that wrap POST /search, plus langchain-searchpipe with a retriever and a tool. Those packages take the key from SEARCHPIPE_API_KEY and mirror the REST parameters. Miss the key and the tool cannot authenticate, so sort out credentials before wiring it in.
What it helps with
- give an agent current web results instead of stale model knowledge
- attach a source link to every search hit
- get a direct answer to a question without a second pass over pages
- pull full page text for follow-up analysis
- drop search into a LangChain pipeline with a ready retriever
Example prompts for the agent
- Search the web with SearchPipe for FastAPI changes over the past year and list the source links
- Run
searchpipe_searchon the Python 3.13 migration and setinclude_answerto true - Look up this stack trace, return 10 hits with full page content
