Seamless — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Local-first memory and fleet coordination for AI coding agents. Keeps project constraints across sessions and prevents task overlap.
Open on GitHubWhat Seamless does
AI coding agents drop hard-won constraints as soon as their context window resets. Seamless retains that context on your local drive. The seamlessd background daemon stores records as plain Markdown files under ~/.seamless, while an internal SQLite engine indexes tasks and events.
When dispatching several agents at once, the system prevents duplicate work. It provides an atomic leasing queue where workers reserve plan steps before executing them. Knowledge updates rely on explicit curation: an automated gardener spots stale entries or duplicates, yet only suggests revisions rather than rewriting files silently.
Everything runs locally through a standalone Go binary. No cloud accounts, external vector stores, or Node dependencies are required. The installer relies on curl and tar, and the background daemon must run as an active user service.
What it helps with
- persist learned architectural constraints across isolated agent sessions
- prevent multiple concurrent agents from implementing the exact same backlog item
- lease tasks atomically so parallel workers divide project workload cleanly
- audit and prune project memories through explicit human review
Example prompts for the agent
- Record a constraint: always hash refresh tokens before saving them to the database
- Claim the next ready task from our refactoring roadmap with an active lease
- Read the project constraints before touching the session cookie settings

Questions about Seamless
How to install Seamless for Claude Code?
Run curl -fsSL https://thereisnospoon.org/install | sh in your terminal (or irm https://thereisnospoon.org/install.ps1 | iex in PowerShell on Windows). The script downloads seamlessd and seam, starts the background service, and configures MCP automatically.
What does Seamless do?
It gives coding agents persistent on-disk memory in Markdown files and coordinates work queues using lease-based task claiming.
Does Seamless require an external account or cloud database?
No external accounts are required. The daemon and CLI run locally as standalone Go binaries using an embedded pure-Go SQLite database on localhost.
