rendezvous-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
Calculates equitable meeting locations for 2 to 10 people using actual travel times and reachability zones instead of naive geographic midpoints.
claude mcp add --env VALHALLA_URL=<VALHALLA_URL> --transport stdio rendezvous-mcp -- npx -y rendezvous-mcpWhat rendezvous-mcp does
This server connects AI assistants to Valhalla routing and OpenStreetMap data. It exposes tools like search-venues to discover nearby spots, get-isochrone to map travel limits by minutes, get-directions for turn-by-turn guidance, and score-venues to rank candidate spots by how evenly travel durations are shared across the group.
Public routing operates out of the box via routing.trotters.cc without registration keys. When free tier requests are depleted, tools respond with a Lightning invoice requiring L402 tokens stored via store-routing-credentials. Running your own internal Valhalla node bypasses these fees when configured through the VALHALLA_URL setting.
The package operates over standard stdio or runs as a streaming HTTP server on port 3002 for remote connections.
What it helps with
- Find balanced group meeting spots based on actual travel durations
- Locate candidate venues via OpenStreetMap around target coordinates
- Generate reachability polygons for a set time window
- Provide turn-by-turn navigation instructions to selected locations
Example prompts for the agent
- Suggest a fair lunch spot between Oxford and Reading so neither person travels noticeably longer
- Map out everywhere reachable from downtown within thirty minutes
- Rank these candidate venues by travel fairness for three people coming from different towns

Questions about rendezvous-mcp
How to install rendezvous-mcp in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add rendezvous-mcp -- npx -y rendezvous-mcp. If you run a custom routing instance, pass the endpoint URL: claude mcp add --env VALHALLA_URL=<VALHALLA_URL> --transport stdio rendezvous-mcp -- npx -y rendezvous-mcp.
What does rendezvous-mcp do?
It finds central meeting venues for 2 to 10 participants, calculating journey times to ensure no single attendee bears an unfair travel burden.
Is an external routing API key mandatory?
No API keys are required. The default endpoint includes free routing calls, supported by L402 Lightning micro-transactions when quota expires, or by connecting a self-hosted Valhalla service.
