Redmine — Claude Code MCP server: features and setup
Connect an AI agent to Redmine to inspect issues, projects, time entries, and wiki pages. The server starts in read-only mode.
claude mcp add --env REDMINE_SERVER=<REDMINE_SERVER> --env REDMINE_API_KEY=<REDMINE_API_KEY> --env REDMINE_MCP_ENABLE_WRITES=<REDMINE_MCP_ENABLE_WRITES> --transport stdio redmine -- docker run -i --rm -e REDMINE_SERVER -e REDMINE_API_KEY -e REDMINE_MCP_ENABLE_WRITES ghcr.io/aarondpn/redmine-mcp:2.14.1What Redmine does
The server gives an agent typed tool calls for working with Redmine. Ask it to find project issues, inspect a particular issue, review time entries, or look up a wiki page. Other Redmine operations are available too.
Setup requires a Redmine server address and an API key, passed through REDMINE_SERVER and REDMINE_API_KEY. Writes are off by default; REDMINE_MCP_ENABLE_WRITES controls access to write operations. Enabling that setting lets the agent change Redmine data, so check it before connecting. In Claude Code, the server runs in Docker over stdio.
What it helps with
- find issues in a Redmine project
- inspect an issue by its number
- review logged time entries
- look up a wiki page
Example prompts for the agent
- Find the open issues in project
myprojectand list their IDs. - Show issue
123and report its status. - Find the project's time entries and summarize them.

Questions about Redmine
How do I install Redmine in Claude Code?
Run `claude mcp add --env REDMINE_SERVER=<REDMINE_SERVER> --env REDMINE_API_KEY=<REDMINE_API_KEY> --env REDMINE_MCP_ENABLE_WRITES=<REDMINE_MCP_ENABLE_WRITES> --transport stdio redmine -- docker run -i --rm -e REDMINE_SERVER -e REDMINE_API_KEY -e REDMINE_MCP_ENABLE_WRITES ghcr.io/aarondpn/redmine-mcp:2.14.1`. Supply your Redmine address and API key through the matching variables.
What does the Redmine MCP server do?
It exposes typed tools for an agent to access Redmine operations, including issues, projects, time entries, and wiki pages. Its default mode permits reading only.
How can I let the server make changes in Redmine?
Write access is controlled by REDMINE_MCP_ENABLE_WRITES. The server is read-only by default; set this variable during setup when the agent needs write operations.
