reddit-research-mcp — Claude Code MCP server for Reddit research
Gives your assistant semantic search across 20,000+ subreddits, post and comment fetching, and saved feeds for monitoring.
claude mcp add reddit-research-mcp -- uvx reddit-research-mcpWhat reddit-research-mcp does
The server exposes Reddit through three tools: discover_operations, get_operation_schema and execute_operation. You list the available operations, pull the schema for the one you need, then run it. That layering keeps the model from guessing at parameters.
Operations come in two groups. Research: discover_subreddits runs vector search over indexed communities, search_subreddit filters posts by time range and sort order, fetch_posts pulls one subreddit's listing, fetch_multiple batches several at once, fetch_comments returns full comment trees. Feeds: create_feed, list_feeds, get_feed, update_feed, delete_feed — they store a set of communities so you can return to it in another session.
Install runs through uvx, so Python 3.11+ and uvx have to be on the machine. Without them the command won't start. Auth uses Descope OAuth2, and no Reddit API credentials are involved.
What it helps with
- find communities on a topic you didn't know existed
- collect user complaints about a tool with links to the posts
- compare what people write about two competing libraries
- save a set of subreddits and come back to it later
- pull the full comment tree under a discussion
Example prompts for the agent
- Find subreddits where people discuss migrating from Next.js to Remix
- Collect complaints about small business CRM tools and cite the posts
- Save these communities as a feed so I can track them later
