raxol — Claude Code MCP server: what it does, how to install
An Elixir and OTP runtime that exposes UI component trees as MCP tools for agents without pixel scraping.
Open on GitHubWhat raxol does
Raxol compiles a single TEA (The Elm Architecture) GenServer module into four distinct surfaces: terminal TUIs, Phoenix LiveView browser views, SSH shells, and structured MCP tools. Models interact with component trees directly. An interactive button automatically supplies a click tool, while input elements provide type_into and get_value.
Context stays lean because a focus mechanism narrows the active toolset to roughly 15 items per interaction. In unattended MCP mode, mutating tools like write_file and bash stay disabled because nobody is present to grant approval prompts. Running the runtime requires an active Elixir environment with mix.
What it helps with
- control application interfaces via structured component trees instead of pixel scraping
- expose interactive TEA components as MCP tools automatically
- limit agent tool choices to approximately 15 relevant items on screen
- persist agent runs through an on-disk event journal
Example prompts for the agent
- Start the stdio runtime using
mix mcp.serverand inspect exposed components. - Send a query into the active search component with the
type_intotool. - Inspect earlier agent runs using
harness_list_sessions.

Questions about raxol
How to run raxol in Claude Code?
Run mix mcp.server inside your project directory to launch the stdio server.
What does raxol do?
It runs Elixir TEA modules and renders them simultaneously across terminal, web, and SSH, while projecting MCP tools for AI agents.
Why are file editing tools absent in raxol MCP mode?
The MCP surface omits write_file, edit_file, and bash because unattended stdio executions lack an interactive approval step for modifying operations.
