jira-mcp · raalarcon9705 — Claude Code MCP server: Jira and Confluence in chat
Wires Jira and Confluence into your AI assistant: issues, sprints, comments, transitions and wiki pages without leaving the editor.
claude mcp add jira-mcp -e JIRA_HOST=<JIRA_HOST> -e JIRA_EMAIL=<JIRA_EMAIL> -e JIRA_API_TOKEN=<JIRA_API_TOKEN> -- npx -y raalarcon-jira-mcp-serverWhat jira-mcp does
The server exposes Jira Cloud to an agent: list projects and issue types, create and edit issues, read and write comments with pagination, move issues between states, assign people, search users, and run sprints through their lifecycle. Confluence pages come in by URL identifier, with HTML flattened to text.
Descriptions and comments accept Markdown and get converted to Atlassian Document Format on the way in — headings, bold and italic, code, lists, links, quotes, checkboxes. Payloads are validated with Yup schemas, and responses are trimmed field by field to keep token use down.
It runs through npx, so there is no global install. Three environment variables are mandatory: JIRA_HOST, JIRA_EMAIL and JIRA_API_TOKEN. Without them the server will not start, and the token has to be created in your Atlassian account settings. Only Jira Cloud is supported.
What it helps with
- file a Jira issue from inside the agent chat
- move an issue to another status without opening a browser
- pull a Confluence page into the model context as plain text
- list a sprint's issues and sort them by assignee
- add a Markdown comment to an existing issue
Example prompts for the agent
- List every Jira project my account can see
- Create an issue in PROJ with a Markdown description: heading, reproduction steps and a code block
- Transition PROJ-123 to In Progress and assign it to me
