PreClick — Claude Code MCP server: URL checks
PreClick screens URLs for threats and checks whether they fit the agent’s intended task before navigation. It suits workflows that handle links automatically.
claude mcp add --transport http preclick-mcp https://preclick.ai/mcpWhat PreClick — An MCP-native URL preflight scanning service for autonomous agents. does
PreClick exposes URL checks through MCP before an agent opens a page. It looks for phishing, malware, and other security risks, then compares the link with the task context. The result gives an agent a pre-navigation decision instead of sending it straight to the target.
The hosted service is available at https://preclick.ai/mcp and can be connected to Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Windsurf (Devin Desktop), Cline, Zed, or Gemini CLI. A trial tier allows up to 100 requests per day without an API key. Usage above that quota requires X-API-Key.
The MCP interface provides url_scanner_scan and url_scanner_scan_with_intent. A scan can run directly or as an asynchronous task with the task parameter. Use it only on websites or systems you are authorized to assess; the service does not grant permission to inspect someone else’s infrastructure.
What it helps with
- screen a URL before an agent follows it
- spot phishing links in messages
- check whether a page matches the task
- add URL checks to an automation flow
Example prompts for the agent
- Run a PreClick check on
https://example.combefore opening the page and report any threats. - Scan the link in this message and compare it with the task of finding the project documentation.
- Check every external URL with PreClick before you navigate to it.
