posokanei-mcp — Claude Code MCP server: supermarket prices
This MCP server exposes Greek supermarket products and prices to AI clients. Use it to search items, check retailers, and compare a small basket.
claude mcp add --env POSOKANEI_API_BASE=<POSOKANEI_API_BASE> --env POSOKANEI_CACHE_TTL_MS=<POSOKANEI_CACHE_TTL_MS> --env POSOKANEI_MIN_INTERVAL_MS=<POSOKANEI_MIN_INTERVAL_MS> --env POSOKANEI_TIMEOUT_MS=<POSOKANEI_TIMEOUT_MS> --transport stdio posokanei-mcp -- npx -y posokanei-mcpWhat posokanei-mcp does
posokanei-mcp lets an MCP client query PosoKanei data for Greek supermarkets. An agent can search by product name or barcode, retrieve retailer prices, browse categories, and list retailers.
Its tools also cover price history when available, comparable products, small-basket comparisons, and high-level dataset statistics. Requests use public API endpoints that are not documented, so an API change can break the server. Cache duration, request spacing, API base, and timeout are configurable with POSOKANEI_CACHE_TTL_MS, POSOKANEI_MIN_INTERVAL_MS, POSOKANEI_API_BASE, and POSOKANEI_TIMEOUT_MS.
What it helps with
- search for a product by name or barcode
- compare current prices across retailers
- check a small basket against different stores
- browse product categories and retailers
- retrieve available price history
Example prompts for the agent
- Find this product by its barcode and compare the retailer prices.
- Compare this small shopping basket across retailers and show the cheapest option.
- Browse the available product categories and list the retailers.

Questions about posokanei-mcp
How do I install posokanei-mcp in Claude Code?
Run claude mcp add posokanei-mcp -- npx -y posokanei-mcp. Claude Code will then be able to start the server through npx.
What does posokanei-mcp do?
It gives an AI client access to PosoKanei product data, retailer prices, categories, and retailer lists. The server can also compare a small basket and request price history when available.
What can break posokanei-mcp?
The server depends on public PosoKanei API endpoints that are not documented. An API change can disrupt requests; request spacing and cache duration can be adjusted with POSOKANEI_MIN_INTERVAL_MS and POSOKANEI_CACHE_TTL_MS.
