personal-finance — Claude Code MCP server: features, setup
This MCP server runs deterministic finance calculations, builds a plan from a plain-language situation, and fetches market data when connected to Claude Code.
claude mcp add personal-finance -- uvx personal-finance-mcpWhat personal-finance does
personal-finance exposes deterministic finance calculators through MCP. It covers time-value calculations, debt payments, portfolio metrics, bond and equity valuation, mutual funds, savings products, and related planning tasks. The same inputs produce the same numeric result.
A planning tool named create_financial_plan routes a user’s description to the relevant calculators and combines the results into a prioritized plan. The project also provides a web interface and API, while its market-data tools can retrieve fund NAVs, foreign-exchange rates, and stock quotes. Those sources work without API keys.
Running from source requires Python 3.10+. The Claude Code setup uses uvx and starts the server over stdio. The hosted connector is a shared, rate-limited instance that may cold-start after idle, so private or heavier use belongs on a local or self-hosted setup.
What it helps with
- calculate future or present value
- estimate loan payments and amortization
- compare portfolio return and risk metrics
- turn a financial situation into a prioritized plan
- retrieve a fund NAV, FX rate, or stock quote
Example prompts for the agent
- Create a retirement plan from my age, income, savings, and target retirement age.
- Compare paying down this loan early with investing the same monthly amount.
- Get the latest NAV for this mutual fund and use it in an SIP calculation.
