What openevidence-mcp does

This local stdio server gives MCP clients access to an existing OpenEvidence browser session. It can check login status, list past questions and articles, fetch an article by ID, or submit a new research question. For longer requests, the client can wait for the article to finish.

You need Node.js 20+, npm 10+, an OpenEvidence account, and Chromium installed through Playwright. Sign in with npm run login:session; an API token is not needed. The project is unofficial and does not provide medical advice. Calling oe_ask creates a question or article in your account.

What it helps with

  • check whether the saved OpenEvidence session is logged in
  • find a previous article or question in account history
  • retrieve an article using its ID
  • submit a research question and wait for its article

Example prompts for the agent

  • Check my OpenEvidence login state with oe_auth_status.
  • Look through my previous OpenEvidence articles for this topic using oe_history_list.
  • Ask OpenEvidence this research question with oe_ask and wait for the article to finish.
