argot — Claude Code MCP server: checks code against Git history
argot uses patterns from a repository’s Git history to surface changes that differ from its established code. Use it when reviewing whether new code fits the project.
claude mcp add argot -- npx -y @tmonier/argotWhat argot does
The server draws on repository history to give an agent context for checking changes. It can flag unfamiliar imports, calls that resemble existing functions, and imports that reverse the project’s layer direction. Checks rely on local statistical analysis, not a separate LLM.
Run argot audit for an initial review; argot init and argot check fit the current repository and assess selected changes. A usable Git history and supported source code are required. Treat findings as review prompts, not proof that code is wrong or correct.
What it helps with
- spot dependencies the repository has not used before
- find new functions that duplicate existing ones
- catch imports that reverse layer direction
- notice tests removed or weakened alongside code changes
Example prompts for the agent
- Check these changes against patterns in this repository’s history with argot.
- Run
argot auditand show me the findings to review. - Use
argot checkto compare these changes with argot’s fitted baseline.
